What Is a Consultation Visit?
An On-Site Consultation visit is a confidential, no-cost consultation with a safety and health professional who will help you find and fix hazards, develop safety and health programs, and train your workers. Your department's only obligation is to correct unsafe or unhealthy working conditions within a reasonable time-period.
How It Works
Complete the online VIDOSH Consultation Request Form, let us know the safety concerns you have, and a consultation visit will be scheduled. The consultant will help you identify the department’s safety and health needs and set a date for the visit that is convenient for you.
Walk-through
The consultant will study either specific operations you designate or the entire workplace and discuss the applicable OSHA standards. Together, the employer, worker representative, and consultant walk through the business and look for existing and potential hazards. OSHA strongly encourages maximum employee participation in the walk-through. Talking with employees, and all stakeholders during the walk-through helps the consultant identify and judge the nature and extent of specific hazards. The consultant can review your safety and health management program at no cost to you.
Closing Conference and Follow-up
The consultant will review their findings in detail with you and the worker representative in a closing conference. You will learn what improvements are needed, as well as what you are doing right, cost considerations, and how to keep making progress. After the consultant leaves, you will receive a detailed written report summarizing the visit and confirming what needs to be fixed.
Correcting Hazards
When a situation is determined as a “serious” hazard, the consultant will help you develop a plan to correct the hazard within a reasonable period and protect your workers in the meantime
